No diving today, as expected, so I spent a lazy morning doing not much of anything before venturing out to the far side of the harbor.
Spotting what looks like a bird kennel attached to a vehicle.

Getting a similar, but different, view of the town.

Including a light to warn ships of the pier.

And then I saw something odd.

I walked to the boat yard. No security, so you can walk anywhere you want. Sure enough, that ship is having issues.

Then I reached out to the dive shops. One is thinking about going tomorrow, but doesn’t seem likely. The other, the one I really like and where I’ve been storing my gear, said they’re closing shop for the season.
I needed to go pick up my gear today.
Not good.
I go there in the late afternoon and chatted with them for about an hour. Two issues. The first is that the weather kicked up so much silt that it’ll be a few days before visibility comes back. The second is that since the travel agency Thomas Cook went under recently, the tourists have stopped coming. So there are no customers.
Their decision: pack up and call it a season.
They were serious.
Boat out of the water and everything.

So I’m in a pickle. It doesn’t look like there will be any more diving on the island, but I’m here for another two weekends before heading home.
I looked up prices for flights to Athens. And mapped out the route to drive there. And looked up Airbnbs.
And talked to a dive shop in Athens: they are still diving.
I made no decision today, but it looks like I’ll be heading to Athens tomorrow or Sunday and finish out my trip diving from there. Not ideal, but better than wasting my time here, I think.
I’ll sleep on it and decide in the morning.
