Southeast Asia/Kenya : Day 15 : Phuket Elephant Sanctuary

Last vacation activity today: a visit to the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary.

We start with a video explaining the abuse the elephants suffer in both the logging and tourism industries, and how the sanctuary buys the elephants to give them a good last few years.

Then we feed them. We each get a basket of fruits, hold the fruit up, and the elephant trunk comes in and grabs it.

We walk around for 90 or so minutes, encountering the elephants as they roam about the property.

Or just stand and eat.

There’s a canopy walkway.

And a generally lovely landscape.

But mostly, elephants.

(Notice all three in that picture?)
