Kenya 2022 : Day 24 : Chaos

Long, busy day so no new pictures. I’ll throw a few older ones up while listing the ways today went bonkers.

On the drive into the office my Uber driver took a really long way around. He said it was because part of a road was closed. The traffic was as bad as I’ve seen it in the morning.

Once at work I quickly broke our main production data processing system. A 30 minute upgrade turned into 2 hours of troubleshooting.

Things went well for a bit, but I had trouble getting ahold of the hotel I’m staying at this weekend. I needed a ride from the airport. After much searching I discovered the hotel had been bought out and my reservation didn’t go through. So it was a mad scramble to figure out what to do. Thankfully the hotel, now under new management, had a room for roughly the same price.

Unfortunately the website I booked through doesn’t have a way to email or chat with them to get me a refund. I have to call a number. It’s toll-free, but in the US. I’ll have to figure out how to make an international call I guess. (I’ll also try to cancel the payment on my card.)

Then I needed to print my boarding pass. The Kenya Airways app doesn’t seem to have the ability to add tickets to the Apple Wallet. Printing is not an easy thing to do in the world.

After all that was settled, it was approaching 8pm and we started debugging an issue with some loans data that didn’t make sense. By 10pm it still didn’t make sense, but we were all too tired to continue.

On the way to the car I stopped by an ATM to get a little cash. The first ATM declined my card three times. The second wouldn’t even get far enough to let me enter a PIN. Finally at the third I could get some money out.

Now I need to pack, but my laundry is still wet and hanging outside.

Guess it’s sleep now; pack early tomorrow.
