Heading back to Nairobi from Naivasha. I picked the tiny seat in the way back. I also packed the back of the truck so I knew there was room.

We drove over an airstrip on the way out. Apparently a lot of white Kenyans called KCs (“Kenyan Cowboys” I think) are descendants of the original British settlers (invaders?) and live a life that includes owning a plane and flying it around for fun.

We stopped at Mount Longonot on the way back to do a hike.

Only took about an hour to do the roughly 2 mile hike to the crater’s rim.

With lovely views of the valley below.

Had lunch at the top, then saw rain in the distance.

Luckily it didn’t hit us on our descent. There were some stairs built into the trail, but no switchbacks. A lot of the hike was on dirt going up at a steep angle. Too much rain and it would have been a slip-and-slide all the way to the bottom.

Once down, and walking to the car, we spotted some wildlife in the distance. Sadly I only had my phone with me so the zoom is really grainy.
Zebras.

Giraffes. There were four standing around, eating, and eyeing us suspiciously.

Then back to Nairobi. The rain hit us as we were just getting into town, but died down as we were unpacking the car and loading everyone up to go their separate ways.
When I got back to the Airbnb, I did a quick walk to the nearby grocery store for some water and food for the next few days. And then looked at myself in the mirror wondering how I could have put on sunscreen so badly. Patches of red here and there. Hopefully not too bad. It’s warm but not yet painful.
