Kenya 2022 : Day 10 : Wait, I need to get married?!

Got in the Uber this morning while I was in the middle of checking messages on my phone. Head down in the backseat I was paying no attention to anything. Then we stopped for gas — they don’t fill their own tanks here, there are attendants.

As we continued on the driver said I was pretty quiet. I think I’ve had this same driver before. Guess I made a surprisingly talkative impression!

We got to chatting and I asked what he thought were the reasons someone would move to Kenya? He thought hard. Complained that the question was too difficult. Then said “fresh food.” The fruits and veggies you buy in the markets were picked that day, just down the road. Not shipped from who-knows-where.

Then he told me what I needed to do.

I needed to move to Kenya. Get married to a Kenyan woman. That would give me Kenyan citizenship. Then go buy a big ranch outside of town and spend the rest of my days relaxing.

Ha!

Thankfully we got to the workspace before he started telling me about his sisters or anything!

Lunch was a chicken curry with chapati and a dawa to drink. The curry was good. The chapati (sort of a flour tortilla with layers) was good

The dawa was awful.

It’s just water, lemon, and ginger. You’re supposed to mix in honey to cut the tartness of the lemon. I’d say there is no amount of honey that could have made that drink taste good. Such a strong lemon flavor. Almost none of the ginger burn. I had a few sips and then the rest of it ended up in the grass.

After lunch we walked around the grounds. Such a lovely complex!

Then it was just work for the rest of the day. Made it home around 9pm; earlier than most nights.

If I get out of bed tomorrow for more than basic groceries I’ll be surprised. This is exhausting!
