Done for the day early, because I have to pack. I did two hikes. One from my Airbnb to Oia, then the other direction to Fira. It’s the same trail, I’m just staying part way in between.
My first destination. It’s the little strip of white way out there at the end of the island. A two hour walk.

The trail stayed easy to follow, and parts were paved. A few offshoots here and there that I started down, but then reconsidered because I only brought shoes with very little grip.
Blue domed churches are the theme here.

Hmm. I could have stayed here.

And I could have taken a donkey instead of walking!

I don’t know why I keep using the iPhone panorama setting. I never like how they look. Except it does give a feel for the whole view.

Nearly there.

The island is desert like, so the vegetation grows aggressively. It’s like being back home!

Cell coverage included.

Made it! Looks like a Where’s Waldo picture.

More blue domes.

I took the bus back, rested a bit, had some lunch, and then went in the other direction, to Fira.

Same trail, but shorter from where I started, so made it relatively easily.

Blue dome.

Blue dome.

Don’t go for the photo that requires you to stand on someone’s roof.

And a final blue dome. The famous one. This time I took the picture with the sun above and in front, instead of at sunset.

Now it’s time to pack. Flights tomorrow afternoon. First to Athens then on to Zakynthos in a tiny turboprop plane. It’s going to be awful. Just not as awful as 15 hours of the alternative: ferry-bus-ferry-bus. I’ll probably take that long route back to Athens at the end of the trip, so I can see a little bit of mainland Greece. We’ll see.
