Greece : Day 33 : Back to Diving

Got up early. My ride wouldn’t be by for 20 minutes so I did a little walking around my Airbnb.

Greece2019-3557

Got to the dive shop in Kamari, on the southeastern coast. Two other people came on the dive with me, both from England. The dive master also came from England so I was quite outnumbered. I told them I’d refrain from asking about Brexit if they did me the same courtesy about Trump.

Geared up, and drove to the other side of the island to dive in the caldera. Those cliffs in the distance are Fira, where I visited yesterday.

The start of the first dive had some issues.

Greece2019--8

In section (1), I struggled to descend. I needed more weights. Very weird, because I had a thinner wetsuit and more weights than my previous dives. In section (2), we had to surface because one of the other divers couldn’t equalize. He ended up staying behind on the first dive.

First dive was The Wall.

Greece2019-0468

Lots of fish all around.

Greece2019-0472

A patient dive master waiting for us as we took in the view.

Greece2019-0477

At one point I took a break to hover face-up and play with my bubbles.

Ended up being a good dive! We surfaced and swam leisurely back to shore.

Greece2019-0488

Dive two was a reef in the same area.

Greece2019-0503

This time we had some fish following us.

Greece2019-0525

Part way through, there was an ancient pot sitting on a ledge. We all agreed it was ancient. None of us wanted to lift it and discover it was made in China.

Greece2019-0530

Toward the end of the dive, we swam up to a plateau.

Knelt down and were surrounded by fish!

Greece2019-0539

Then we were done. Back to the shop where I arranged for two more dives tomorrow.

Got back to my Airbnb, and had a late lunch at the taverna across the street which only opens selectively for lunch and dinner.

Greece2019-3563

I ended up taking a nap and not doing much of anything for the rest of the evening. So many batteries to recharge, so little time!
