Booked my flight and Airbnb for Zakynthos. I learned my lesson, and found a spot in the middle of town. Like with Paros, which was about perfect.

Got a 30€ lesson in patience. I planned to go to Oia, no matter what. I texted my Airbnb host, asked him to arrange a taxi, and agreed to the price without thinking. Just as I went out to meet the driver, what did I see?
The bus.

Fine. Next time I’ll just wait.
The drive from where I’m staying to Oia is 30 or so minutes, mostly along the edge of the cliffs.
I will admit the view is exactly what you’d expect: white buildings along the cliff face.

I’m glad for the cloud cover, it means I didn’t need to bring my good camera. No postcard shots on a day like today. Just enjoying it.

The restaurants know the view is the selling point, even on days like today where the wind was strong.

Walking through the streets as the sun set.

The other thing that matched expectations: so many people. I can’t imagine how bad it must be in the middle of summer!

I quickly found some side paths. Fewer shops and fewer people.

Stopped for a dessert on a rooftop patio where napkins were being blown off of everyone’s table. Kantaifi: thin strands of phyllo surrounding a sweet nut and cinnamon filling.

By then it was dark.

I stopped at a grocery store and stocked up on provisions for the next couple days. Then found my way to the bus stop. Got into a random line until I got to the front, then asked where the bus was going. Got told to go to a different line. It all worked in the end, but they sure are a grumpy bunch these Santorini bus people!
