Greece : Day 30 : Stupid Texas; Stupid Greece

Today did not go as planned. Thank goodness I went grocery shopping yesterday so I had food to eat!

I intended to hop on the bus after work and go to Oia to see the beauty that is famous Santorini. Busses are scheduled every 20 minutes around the time I was done.

I waited 40 minutes before I gave up and went back to my Airbnb. As I described it to some coworkers:

The Airbnb I picked was not a great choice. It’s in the middle of nowhere. Oops. I thought it would be nice and isolated, but didn’t think about the logistics completely.

While waiting for the bus, Fate thought she’d be funny.

That leaves me with three options:

  1. Watch for the bus and see what schedule it actually runs on
  2. Call for a taxi every time I want to go someplace
  3. Rent a car

I lean toward #3 so I can keep my independence, but I’m not sure Texas and Greece want me to. My drivers license was expired. Texas doesn’t know how to print a license on demand, so it was shipped to me. I had it forwarded to my address in Paros, but it seems to have gotten lost in the Greek system.

Great.

I talked to my host in Paros and he said never to use the post office, always ship using a private company.

Great.

I called the post office today, asked if English was okay, they said “Yes” and then I heard a bunch of beeps and got hung up on.

Great.

Taxi it is.

The worst of both worlds: expensive and a lack of freedom. I don’t think I’m doing Santorini correctly.
