Greece : Day 25 : Disappointing the French

Got to the dive shop early. Unlike the past few days, there was no wind at all. The water was glassy.

We did a cavern dive. This differs from a cave dive in a few ways, but the important ones are: no passageways smaller than two divers side-by-side, and sunlight can always be seen. In our case there was no confusion between cave and cavern. What we dove had an entrance nearly the size of an airplane hanger! It was a training dive for me, so I didn’t take pictures, but I found a video by someone else that shows the same location. (We didn’t surface at the top of the cavern, and we exited through a small opening to one side, otherwise this is pretty similar.)

There were two of us doing a training dive, and three others doing a recreational dive. One of the fun-divers had a camera that made me envious!

He and his wife were from France. When I said I was from Texas their faces lit up. Then I explained how I wasn’t a cowboy, didn’t drive a truck, and owned no guns. The faces turned to disappointment almost immediately.

I spent the afternoon working, but nothing as awful as yesterday. Even got a little walk in. Right past some creepy mannequins.

Then I started studying for tomorrow’s dives. I do two: deep and enriched air. The deep materials were easy to get through. I stopped for dinner, finally succumbing to the advertisements I’d seen around for burgers.

Meh. I’m going back to fish.

Sunset on the walk back was nice though.

The enriched air material takes much longer to get through. I took a little break to write this, but still have more reading to do. Scuba training is a pain: every thing is beautiful pictures surrounded by words explaining all the ways you can die. Lovely.
