Two hour drive from Anchorage to Talkeetna today. With plans for lots of stops along the way, we expect it to take most of the day. It did.
Unfortunately, we were stymied by mosquitoes at a lot of the stops, so pictures are sparse.
We stopped at Reflections Lake. They’d even built a nice, high viewing platform.

A few other stops, but always driven back into the car by bugs. Finally we gave in to exhaustion and went for a snack.

Then the last bit to Talkeetna with hopes of seeing Mt. Denali. Weather around the mountain is fickle. You can go days without seeing the mountain. And that’s what we saw: clouds.
We checked into our rooms. Mine is a little cabin that I share with the mosquitoes.

And then: DENALI! Kinda. Peeking though the clouds. Just a sliver, but enough to see how massive the mountain is.

We went on a couple little walks around the river. Watching people get railroad pics, and hoping not to see them get their foot caught and hit by a train. (All for instagram no doubt.)

Dinner at a great restaurant up on a hill overlooking the town, with a great view of the mountains. The gap seemed to be getting wider. Maybe an hour before the biggest part of the break in the clouds hit the mountain. Back to the hotel, a little break, and then…. Denali says hi.
