Not much to say about the flight. It was long, but I was able to sleep. Jet lag hasn’t hit yet, hopefully I did everything right and it won’t bother me at all. The most notable part was on the ground in Ghana. The airport was tiny. Just a runway. We taxied up the runway, did a u-turn, then took off in the opposite direction!
My first glimpse of Africa was in Ghana as we were landing. The skies were overcast during all of the flight there.
Once I made it to Johannesburg the skies had cleared a little and I could see the mass of brown winter grass. I hear it will be green soon, following the spring rains, but let’s hope those rains hold off for a few weeks.
The drive from the airport to my hotel took about 40 minutes. The time passed quickly, though, because my driver was a local tour guide. Ask me nothing of what he said — it’s been forgotten — but it was very interesting at the time! Dinner at the hotel restaurant, fighting with the Internet and cell network, and then bed. An uneventful first day in South Africa.
